Punt Tours
100 years ago our town's inhabitants started to show visitors around the Spreewald by punt. Punt trips are still of major interest as you can relax wonderfully and enjoy the scenery. Here in the Spreewald the waterways and streams are called "Fließe"; nearly 1.000 kms of them are navigable. The punts have no keels and most of them are made of wood. Gondoliers punt the visitors across the Spreewald by pushing their punts forward with long poles called "Rudel". This activity is called "staken" (punting).
You can start your journey from several punt docks (Häfen). Lübben is the only town here to offer sightseeing in the town by punt. |
Handicapped visitors can also go on a punt tour on specially converted punts. The trip takes, according to your destination, between 1 and 4 hours. Your punt chauffeurs will tell you en route many interesting facts about animal and plant species of the Spreewald and also about the residents' customs and traditions.

Boating
If you wish so you can explore the Spreewald individually by canoe. Not for nothing is the Spreewald known as a water-touring paradise. The water-meadow landscape, unique in Europe, offers unbelievable choice for enthusiastic paddlers.

The densely structured net of waterways stretches over a length of 970 kms in total.

Cycling
Bike tours are becoming more and more popular with Spreewald visitors: it is a marvellous way to combine physical activity and relaxation. On the 250 km long Gurkenradweg "cucumber cycling trail" across the Spreewald you can enjoy not only unspoilt countryside, but may also learn some interesting facts about the well-known Spreewald vegetable, the cucumber, after which this cycling trail was named.
If you wish you can also join one of the guided bike tours.

Guided town tours
Are you interested in Lübben's history? Then we recommend a guided tour. You can be shown round by a traditionally dressed Spreewald lady guide during the day or join the night watchman's tour in the evening - you will learn lots of interesting and amusing facts about our town's history. |
The Schloss Island
The area of the Schloss Island is nearly 6 hectares; it is named after the historic Schloss in the immediate neighbourhood. Spacious lawns, winding paths, streams, trees, shrubs and flowers invite you to stroll here.
|
|
A water playground (Wasserspielplatz) was built for children, there is a sound garden (Klanggarten), a maze, and, of course, attractive playground equipment.
The tourist information centre is also on the Schloss Island where you can get brochures about the town, offers and ideas for your leisure time, make hotel reservations, and buy tickets for concerts and other events.
